Winter Basketball

ASA Basketball offers three different seasons - Winter, Spring & Fall. The Winter season is the primary season and includes games and practice with registration. All three seasons are open to players of all skill levels.

Winter season games are played on Saturdays and/or Sundays with one 1-hour, half-court practice per team on a weeknight.

Winter 2025/2026

Winter 2025/2026

NEW THIS WINTER:
Winter basketball games will be played on Saturdays and Sundays this season.

ASA Basketball attempts to place teams with the most competitive balance.  Please read the options below and select which skill level your team will be this winter season to the best of your knowledge.
*Please note: The League will make the ultimate decision where teams are placed, but would like Head Coach feedback.
Beginner - New teams with players who are in the early stages of their development.

Intermediate - Teams that have been together for a couple seasons or more and have average to above average skilled players.

Advanced - Teams with skilled players who have multiple seasons of experience.

Pre-Season Games:

In a way to improve competitive balance in the 2nd grade through 6th grade leagues, the first two games of the season will be considered "Pre-Season'' games and will not count in the overall standings.  These two games will serve the purpose of allowing the League Directors the chance to watch all of the teams play and then place them into divisions for a six game regular season.  The observation and data collected from these two games will allow them to make educated judgments about division placement for league play.  Once teams are placed in a division, they will play a six game regular season within their established division that will seed them for the postseason tournament. Teams may still be moved for post-season tournament play as determined by the basketball board.

4th-6th grade ADVANCED Basketball League:

Player/Team Registration Options

Which option is right for you?

  • Individual Registration: You’re a player without a team or prefer to join a new one.

  • Registered Team: You’re forming a new team and want to pay the full team fee upfront.

  • Pre-Formed Team: You’re a returning team that wants to stay together.

Individual Registration – This option is open to any player who wants to play basketball with ASA. Players who are new to the league, or who prefer not to return to a previous team, may register as an individual in “draft” status. ASA will place the player on a team with available openings or create a new team as needed.

Registered Team – This option allows a coach to pay the predetermined team fee in full at the time of registration. Once the coach has successfully completed a criminal background check, they will receive a team code and discount code to distribute to their players. Each player must then register with ASA (at no cost) and be officially added to the team roster.

  • A minimum of seven players is required to lock the roster, at which point no additional players will be added.

  • Teams with fewer than seven players may have additional players assigned.

  • The maximum roster size is 10.

  • The Board reserves the right to move registered teams up a league for competitive balance.

  • Registered teams may only add players through Week 2 of the season, regardless of roster size or injury.

Pre-Formed Team – This option is for returning teams that wish to remain together from a previous season. The Head Coach must register first and will receive a team invitation code to distribute to their players. Each player will register individually using the code and pay their own fee.

  • Teams with fewer than 10 players may have additional players assigned.

  • The maximum roster size is 10.

Pre-Draft Workouts
All new and returning players entering the draft may be asked to attend a short, one-hour skills workout. These sessions help the league create fair and balanced teams across all grades (2nd–Middle School), so every player has a chance to compete and grow.

How It Works:

  • Players are evaluated on skills during the workout.

  • Teams are drafted to balance talent and ability.

  • Assignments are made by the League Director.
